Click on the Start button to launch the crossword. Once in the game, click on any crossword square with the mouse. The corresponding clue should appear in the panel on the right.
Please note that there is no way to pause the game, so once you start, there is no turning back, you must complete it as fast as you can! See Scoring for more details.
Use the arrow keys to move around the crossword. You can also use the mouse to quickly go from one square to another. To switch orientation, you can either use the space bar or click the cursor.
To fill the crossword simply type in your answer and the cursor will automatically move to the next square. By default, the game prevents you from overwriting a letter so you have, to use delete or backspace to clear the letter first. You can change that behavior in the Settings.
When ready, click on the Submit Puzzle button to hand in the crossword for scoring. Partially filled crosswords are accepted.
Submissions are scored on speed and accuracy. You will lose points for each erroneous word, no matter how many mistakes are in the word. However, if a letter intersecting two words is wrong, it will count as two mistakes.
The scores will then be aggregated to produce a daily and monthly rankings.
You can use the tab / shift + tab to move forward/backward one word at a time. Completed words will be automatically skipped. Combined with the space bar to switch orientation, this is the quickest way to complete a crossword.
The Settings button brings up a dialog allowing you to customize many aspects of the game.
